About
Also known as: Gala Rizzato, Gala Rizzatto
Gala's 1997 debut album Come into My Life turned her into a European pop fixture almost overnight. The Italian singer's hit single "Freed from Desire" climbed into the Top 3 across Europe, South America, Russia and the Middle East, and the record sold over six million copies worldwide by 1998. She landed a Diamond award in France, a Platinum record in Benelux and a Gold record in the UK, and even earned a Mobo nomination for Best Dance Act alongside The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Orbital. After breaking from Universal, she settled in Brooklyn and rebuilt herself as an independent artist. She launched her own label, Matriarchy Records, and released the Tough Love album in 2009, working with producers like Kevin Rudolf and Tamir Muskat of Balkan Beat Box. She also made her own videos, including the one for "Taste of Me", shot to feel like one continuous take and inspired by Hitchcock.
