About
Geier Sturzflug, whose name roughly translates to Vulture Nosedive, came out of Bochum, Germany and became one of the more distinctive acts in the Neue Deutsche Welle scene. Their signature move was blending rock, pop, ska, and jazz with sharply cynical lyrics, and it worked spectacularly: "Bruttosozialprodukt" sat at number one in Germany for the entire month of May 1983, also becoming a major hit in Austria and Switzerland. "Besuchen Sie Europa," "Pure Lust am Leben," and "Einsamkeit" rounded out their run of well known tracks from that era. After going quiet for a decade, the band relaunched in 1996 and has kept recording and releasing material ever since. They have put out studio albums, singles, and various compilations over the years, mixing new songs with revisited classics. Recent uploads suggest they are still at it, with fresh material appearing as recently as 2024.
