About

Also known as: George Thorogood & Destroyers, George Thorogood & the Delaware Destroyers, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, George Thorowood and the Destroyers

George Thorogood and the Destroyers built their reputation on a high energy mix of Chicago blues and rock and roll, and that sound turned them into a fixture of 1980s US rock radio. Formed in Newark, Delaware in 1973, the band is probably best known for "Bad to the Bone", which became everywhere after heavy MTV rotation and dozens of film and TV placements, and for the barroom anthem "I Drink Alone". They also brought older classics to new audiences, covering Hank Williams, Bo Diddley and John Lee Hooker's take on "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer". The band's touring stamina became legendary, most famously with the 1981 "50/50" tour: all 50 US states in 50 days, with Thorogood squeezing in 51 shows by doubling up in DC and Maryland on the same day. They opened for the Rolling Stones that same year, played Live Aid in 1985, and have kept at it ever since, releasing over 20 albums with two going Platinum and six going Gold, and selling 15 million records worldwide.
