About

Also known as: G. Moroder, George, Georgio Moroder, Giorgio, Giorgio G Moroder, Giorgo Moroder, Giovanni Giorgio Moroder, Hansjörg Moroder, MORODER GIORGIO (DE 1), Moroder, The Giorgio Moroder Projekt

Dubbed the "Father of Disco", Giorgio Moroder spent the 1970s rewriting the rules of popular music from his Musicland Studios in Munich, where acts like Led Zeppelin, Queen, and the Rolling Stones also recorded. His collaboration with Donna Summer produced a string of era defining hits, but the one that truly changed everything was "I Feel Love" in 1977, widely credited as the first track in the Hi NRG genre and a direct ancestor of house and techno. Synthesizers were his instrument of choice long before they were fashionable. Beyond the dancefloor, Moroder built a parallel career scoring films, picking up Academy Awards for Midnight Express, Flashdance, and Top Gun, the last of which featured Berlin's "Take My Breath Away", a track he has named as his personal favorite. He also wrote "Un'estate italiana", the official theme of the 1990 FIFA World Cup, and co wrote "Together in Electric Dreams" with Philip Oakey, a top three hit in the UK. Few producers can claim that kind of range.
