About

Githead came together almost by accident, born out of a one off anniversary celebration for the Swim label at the ICA, yet the chemistry between the four members was strong enough to turn a throwaway project into a proper band. The lineup is a genuine curio: Wire frontman Colin Newman shares the stage with electronic artist Robin Rimbaud, better known as Scanner, plus Minimal Compact's Malka Spigel on bass and vocals and Max Franken on drums. Their debut EP Headgit landed in 2004 before they had even played three gigs. What sets Githead apart from what their individual reputations might suggest is their commitment to a pop and rock framework rather than pure experimentalism. They wrote and recorded in the Swim studio from the start, which meant finished material piled up fast. By the time they debuted as a live four piece in Antwerp in early 2005, they already had their first album Profile in the works. Art Pop followed in 2007, Landing in 2009, and Waiting For a Sign rounded out their discography in 2014.
