Glassjaw built their reputation the hard way, through relentless gigging and a sound that blended post hardcore intensity with alternative metal abrasiveness. Formed in Hempstead, New York, by vocalist Daryl Palumbo and guitarist Justin Beck, the band came up through the New York hardcore scene before producer Ross Robinson caught one of their practices and immediately offered them a deal. Their debut, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence, came out in 2000 on Roadrunner Records and became a touchstone for the post hardcore underground, particularly in the UK. Their follow up, Worship and Tribute, landed on Warner Bros. in 2002 and cracked the Billboard 200 at number 82, though Palumbo's struggles with Crohn's disease cut chunks out of the supporting tour. The band spent years in a semi active state, releasing self pressed 7" singles and EPs around 2010 and 2011, before returning with Material Control in 2017 through Century Media Records, their first full album in 15 years. Despite a small catalogue, they are widely credited as one of the key forces in shaping post hardcore on both sides of the Atlantic.
