About
Also known as: GIAA
God Is an Astronaut started out as a farewell. The twin brothers Niels and Torsten Kinsella made their 2002 debut, The End of the Beginning, thinking it would be their goodbye to the music industry, and instead it kicked off a run of twelve studio albums on their own label, Revive Records. Their name comes from a line in the movie Nightbreed, and their sound mixes post rock with electronic textures, krautrock and space rock, with a nod to Tangerine Dream. The Irish duo from County Wicklow treats each record as a snapshot of who they are at that moment. Highlights include Far from Refuge, Age of the Fifth Sun, Origins, Helios | Erebus and Epitaph, with Embers arriving in 2024. They have toured the US, China, Russia, Brazil and across Europe, and played Eurosonic in 2012 when Ireland was the spotlight country.
