About
GoYa Quartet formed in Amsterdam in 2014, when all four members were playing in the strings sections of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. That shared orchestral background gave the group a tight, unified sound, and Dutch music magazine Luister described them as fresh, precise, energetic, and always full of imagination. Their debut album Autumn Leaves earned a perfect score of 10 from Luister along with a Cum laude distinction, a strong signal of how seriously the chamber music world took them from the start. The quartet's lineup shifted when first violinist Sylvia Huang moved in 2022 to become concertmaster of the Symphonic Orchestra of La Monnaie in Brussels, though the group has kept performing at the highest level. Their programmes tend to pair works that pull in opposite emotional directions, like Beethoven's playful Harp Quartet sitting alongside the darker, more unsettling world of Britten's 1945 string quartet.
