Two Grammy wins, a Glastonbury headline slot, a Christmas album, and a cooking show: Gregory Porter contains multitudes. The Sacramento born baritone sits at the crossroads of jazz, gospel, soul and blues, drawing comparisons to Donny Hathaway, Nat King Cole and Bill Withers, voices he describes as rooted in the same gospel culture that shaped his own sound. His 2013 Blue Note debut Liquid Spirit went gold in the UK and cracked the top 10 on the album charts, a rare commercial feat for a jazz record, and earned him his first Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album. His follow up Take Me to the Alley landed him a second Grammy in 2017, cementing his status as one of the most distinctive vocal jazz artists working today. He has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, on The Graham Norton Show more than once, and even sang a specially composed piece at the lighting of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons. His seventh studio album Christmas Wish arrived in late 2023 on Decca and Blue Note, and he is also recognisable for the distinctive cap he wears at all times on stage.
