About
Also known as: Claire Boucher, Claire Elise Boucher, c, c Boucher, グライムス
Grimes built her reputation on the back of "Visions", her 2012 breakout album recorded almost entirely during three sleepless weeks locked in a Montreal apartment with blacked out windows. That album's single "Oblivion" was named Pitchfork's best song of the year and later ranked number one on their 200 Best Tracks of the Decade list. Her music sits somewhere between art pop, synth pop and experimental electronics, often pulling in themes of science fiction, feminism and fantasy. Her follow up, "Art Angels" in 2015, was called the best album of the year by several publications, and "Miss Anthropocene" arrived in 2020. Outside of records, she voiced a character in Cyberpunk 2077 and served as a judge on the TV competition show Alter Ego. The name Grimes came about almost by accident: she listed "grime" three times on an early MySpace page without actually knowing what the grime genre was.
