About
Grootkoor Groningen is a big choir drawing singers from the city of Groningen and the surrounding area. It is led by two conductors, Etty van der Mei and Nan van Groeningen, who share the job of steering a mixed programme in which familiar songs and proper choral pieces take turns. The choir likes to work alongside instrumentalists. Past concerts have brought in panpipe player Carina Petersen, pianist Andy Booth, organist Martin Mans and the Martini Brassband, so the sound can swing from warm panpipes to a full brass glow. The database files them under swing music, and their repertoire leans on atmosphere and sing along recognition as much as on polish.
