About
Also known as: Brendan Patrick Rice, Brendan Rice
Gus Dapperton, the stage name of Brendan Patrick Rice, has built a genuinely distinctive corner of bedroom pop and indie pop with a sound that swings between dreamy, lo fi intimacy and polished production. His 2019 debut album Where Polly People Go to Read charted the emotional peaks and valleys of falling in love, while his follow up Orca shifted into darker territory, using the image of orcas in captivity as a metaphor for internal pain and suffering. That record leaned on live instrumentation and raw songwriting in a way his third album Henge deliberately moved away from, trading it for heavier production and a concept built around love and fear. He also co wrote the TikTok phenomenon Supalonely with BENEE, a track that racked up over 6.9 billion plays in a single month and landed them both on The Tonight Show. His look, a green bowl cut, eyeliner, chunky jewelry and bold colors, is as much a creative statement as the music itself.
