Haley Heynderickx plays fingerstyle acoustic guitar in the tradition of Leo Kottke and John Fahey, weaving that technical, almost meditative approach together with lyrics that are introspective but laced with sharp, well timed humor. Her 2018 debut album I Need to Start a Garden put her on the map fast: Pitchfork gave it a 7.3, NPR Music said it "captivates", and Stereogum had already named her an Artist to Watch before it even came out. She followed it up with a tiny desk concert for NPR that same year, performing songs from the album. Her second album Seed of a Seed arrived in November 2024, again through Mama Bird Recording Co., and picked up positive notices from Pitchfork, Paste, and DIY. She also has a collaborative side to her work, having teamed up with guitarist Max Garcia Conover on multiple projects, including the 2025 LP What of Our Nature on Fat Possum Records.
