About
Have a Nice Life built something genuinely strange out of Middletown, Connecticut. Dan Barrett and Tim Macuga recorded their debut album Deathconsciousness for under a thousand dollars, lost the original master files, and then watched it quietly become a cult classic through word of mouth on online communities rather than any press attention. The record pulls from My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division, Swans, and even drone metal acts like Sunn O))), landing somewhere between shoegaze and dark ambient with an oppressive, immersive quality that clearly struck a nerve. Their third album Sea of Worry, released in 2019, was the first to feature a full live band after Barrett and Macuga had spent years as a duo. The pair are famously grounded outside of music too, Barrett running a real estate marketing agency and Macuga teaching high school English and History. In 2024 they contributed a cover of Low's "When I Go Deaf" as a tribute to drummer Mimi Parker, appearing on The Flenser's compilation Your Voice Is Not Enough.
