Hayes Carll writes the kind of country and folk songs that blur the line between sharp comedy and plain spoken poetry, a combination that has made him a favourite among fellow artists. His songs have been recorded by Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, Brothers Osborne, and a slew of other names, and his 2008 track "She Left Me For Jesus" won the Americana Music Association Song of the Year. Carll has kept things interesting well beyond that breakthrough.
