About
He Said was the solo alias of Graham Lewis, best known as a member of Wire, and it gave him a space to chase a more synth driven, minimal sound all his own. The debut album, Hail, came out on Mute Records in October 1986. Lewis produced it with John Fryer at Blackwing Studios in London, and his Wire bandmate Bruce Gilbert pitched in. Brian Eno also turned up, playing a Yamaha DX7 synthesiser on I Fall into Your Arms. The singles Only One I and Pump came from that era, and the CD edition tacked on Pulling 3g's / Pale Feet. In 1988 Lewis and Fryer reunited for the single Could You, which landed on the second and final He Said record, Take Care, released by Mute in 1989. Two albums in total, both on Mute, make this a compact but intriguing side chapter for anyone who likes their post punk stripped down and electronic.
