About

Few bassists in Japanese rock history made as immediate an impact as Heath, who stepped into X Japan in 1992 as a replacement for Taiji and quickly became a core part of the band's identity. His playing anchored two number one albums, Art of Life and Dahlia, and he even co composed the instrumental track Wriggle on the latter with guitarist Pata. A 2018 poll in We Rock magazine placed him seventh among the greatest bassists in hard rock and heavy metal history, voted on by both readers and professional musicians. Outside X Japan, Heath kept himself busy with a solo career he launched in 1995, scoring a top ten Oricon hit with Meikyuu no Lovers, which served as an ending theme for the Detective Conan anime. He also co founded Dope HEADz alongside Pata and programmer I.N.A., releasing two albums before the group wound down in 2002. He rejoined X Japan in 2007 and continued performing and recording with them until his death from colon cancer in October 2023.
