About

Helena Basilova brings a rare combination of technical rigour and genuine curiosity to classical piano. Born in Russia and based in the Netherlands since 1990, she has built a reputation for championing composers who often sit at the edges of the standard repertoire, particularly Scriabin and Janáček, with dedicated recordings on Quintone Records. The New York Times called her playing 'sensitively and with flair', and she has performed at Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall, and the NCPA in Mumbai. What sets Basilova apart is her restlessness with the traditional concert format. She builds programmes that weave piano music together with poetry, theatre, and visual art, and in 2016 she developed a multimedia performance inspired by Scriabin's own experiments combining sound and colour. She also crosses into contemporary jazz territory, collaborating with musicians like Reinier Baas. On top of performing, she teaches piano at the Artez Institute of the Arts, and her discography keeps growing, with releases as recent as 2025.
