About
If you've ever watched Dutch TV and found yourself unexpectedly emotional, there's a good chance Henk Poort was involved. The Amsterdam singer built his reputation on the big musical theatre stages, taking on roles like the Phantom in the Dutch Phantom of the Opera and Jean Valjean in the first Dutch staging of Les Misérables. He even joined the legendary Les Misérables Dream Cast in Concert as one of the 17 Valjeans, and lent his voice to Gaston in the Dutch dub of Beauty and the Beast. His 2019 Beste Zangers appearance with Nightwish singer Floor Jansen, performing Phantom of the Opera together, turned into something of a viral phenomenon, pulling in over 29 million YouTube views. The reception was strong enough that Nightwish brought back their cover of the song live for the first time in 17 years, with Poort as guest vocalist at their Amsterdam show in November 2022, a night filmed for a DVD release.
