Hildur Guðnadóttir became the first Icelander to win an Oscar, and the first solo woman composer to take the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award for Best Original Score, all for her haunting Joker score. She is a classically trained cellist who also plays the halldorophone, and her path to Hollywood ran through some seriously adventurous company: she has recorded with Pan Sonic, Throbbing Gristle, Múm and Stórsveit Nix Noltes, and toured with Animal Collective and Sunn O))). Her solo records started in 2006 with Mount A, released as Lost In Hildurness, followed by albums on the Touch label such as Without Sinking and Saman. Screen work made her a household name. Her Chernobyl score won an Emmy, a BAFTA TV Award and a Grammy, and she has also scored Mary Magdalene, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Tár and Women Talking, plus the Battlefield 2042 game soundtrack. Lately she has put out the album Where To From on Deutsche Grammophon and brought Mount A back on vinyl.
