About
Hurriganes built their reputation on a love of pre Beatles rock and roll that felt almost out of time when they emerged in early 1970s Helsinki. Their classic trio of drummer and frontman Remu Aaltonen, bassist Cisse Häkkinen and guitarist Albert Järvinen cranked out revved up covers of 1950s classics alongside their own originals, drawing comparisons to British pub rock acts like Dave Edmunds and Dr. Feelgood. Their 1974 album Roadrunner became Finland's seventh best selling album of all time, and its standout track "Get On" won the International European Pop Jury competition. The band was a genuine phenomenon across Scandinavia and Estonia throughout the decade. In Sweden they repeatedly broke attendance records at the Folkpark concert venues, and their 1976 album Hot Wheels hit even harder there than it did at home. The intentionally misspelled name was always part of the charm, and so was the iconic Roadrunner cover shot of the three of them lounging in Cisse's light blue 1954 Cadillac, a sleeve good enough to land in a 1977 international book on great album artwork.
