Few DJs guard their identity as fiercely as I Hate Models, the French techno producer born Guillaume Labadie who has performed masked since his earliest shows. His sound pulls from early 1990s rave culture but layers in cold wave, EBM, industrial textures, and acid, built on hardware like the Sequential Prophet 6 and Jomox Xbase 999 drum machine. He broke through with his 2019 debut album L'Âge des métamorphoses on Perc Trax, a twelve track record that critics called radical and daring for the way it shifted between melodic, percussive, and acid sections without ever settling into a locked loop. Mixmag named him one of the DJ revelations of 2019, and his profile has only grown since. A 2024 study by ticketing platform Shotgun found him to be the most listened to live artist among Generation Z in France, ahead of Fred Again. He has headlined the opening night of Paris club Phantom and filled the Halle Tony Garnier in Lyon for a full evening solo set. His EP Forever Melancholia, released across three singles in late 2024, shows no sign of him softening the moody, bruising energy that made his name.
