As the lead singer and only continuous member of the Stone Roses, Ian Brown was at the centre of one of the most celebrated British bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s, the debut album of which was voted the best British album of all time in 2004. When the band split in 1996, he wasted little time, heading to Morocco before launching a solo career with the debut single "My Star" and the album Unfinished Monkey Business, which shifted over 300,000 copies and featured ex Roses members Mani, Aziz Ibrahim, and Robbie Maddix. His second album, Golden Greats, leaned into electronic instrumentation and earned strong critical notices, while Music of the Spheres brought in producer Dave McCracken, the start of a regular working relationship. He has since racked up six solo albums, fourteen UK Top 40 singles, and seven sold out UK tours, plus a Stone Roses reunion run that stretched from 2012 to 2017. His solo work spans alternative rock, britpop and neo psychedelia, making him one of the more restless and unpredictable figures to come out of the Madchester era.
