About

Also known as: Ian Anderson Paice, イアン・ペース

Ian Paice is the heartbeat of Deep Purple, literally the only member to have played in every single lineup since the band formed in 1968, appeared on every album, and shown up for every live gig. Ritchie Blackmore once said he had been looking for Paice for about a year after watching him play in Hamburg, calling him "the motor of the band", and that reputation has only grown over the decades. Rolling Stone ranked him 21st on their list of the 100 greatest drummers of all time, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Deep Purple in 2016. When Deep Purple went on ice from 1976 to 1984, Paice was anything but idle. He co founded Paice Ashton Lord with Jon Lord and Tony Ashton, spent nearly three years with Whitesnake contributing to four albums, then linked up with Gary Moore for the Corridors of Power album and extensive touring. His session work is just as varied: he appears on the Velvet Underground's final album Squeeze, played on George Harrison recordings that ended up on Best of Dark Horse 1976 to 1989, and has worked alongside Jeff Beck, Steve Winwood and Paul McCartney.
