Ida Alanen & Oene van Geel

About

Ida Alanen and Oene van Geel make music in the space between composition and improvisation. She plays piano, he plays viola and violin, and both work as composers as well as performers. That shared wish to blur the line between written structure and spontaneous playing is what brought them together as a duo. Their pieces draw on imagined folk tales, wide open landscapes and the restless rush of the big city, so the music moves between the pastoral and the urban. Expect a pairing of keys and strings where the storytelling feels as important as the notes themselves.
