Iggy Azalea made history when her 2014 single "Fancy", featuring Charli XCX, hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first non American female rapper to top the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart with her debut, The New Classic. Around the same time, her feature on Ariana Grande's "Problem" sat at number two, putting her in rare company: only the Beatles had previously held the top two spots simultaneously with debut entries. "Black Widow" with Rita Ora rounded out a run that few debut albums can match. Born in Sydney and raised in Mullumbimby, Azalea moved to the US at 16 and built her following from scratch, starting with viral YouTube videos for "Pussy" and "Two Times" in 2011 before signing with T.I.'s Grand Hustle Records. Her second studio album, In My Defense, came out in 2019 after label disputes derailed the long promised Digital Distortion, and her third, The End of an Era, followed in 2021. In 2024, she announced her retirement from music via social media.
