Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas started out blending rap, synthesized sounds, and ironic lyrics on their 1991 debut, but what really put them on the map was Chaco, a record that sold over 250,000 copies and earned them a Latin MTV Award for Best Video of the Year in 1996. The Buenos Aires duo, Dante Spinetta and Emmanuel Horvilleur, built their name on a restless refusal to stay in one lane, pulling from hip hop, funk, soul, rock, and salsa across a run of albums that stretched from the early nineties into the 2000s. After splitting in 2001, both kept busy with solo careers before officially reuniting in 2011. Their comeback album Chances delivered real moments, including "Águila Amarilla", written for Dante's late father, and "Ula Ula", which won Best Urban Song at the Latin Grammys in 2013 and was catchy enough to get a shout from Oprah on Twitter. Their seventh studio album L.H.O.N., released in 2016, showed they had no intention of coasting on nostalgia.
