Infected Mushroom, the Israeli duo of Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani, helped drag psytrance into the global mainstream from their early base in Haifa before relocating to Los Angeles. Their 1999 debut The Gathering was among the first albums to bring Israeli psytrance to international audiences, and they kept evolving from there, folding in electronica, dubstep, hip hop and even electro pop while never losing that psychedelic core. Live, they bring out vocalists, analogue instruments and a full multimedia backdrop, which sets them apart from most acts in the genre. Their catalogue runs deep and varied. IM The Supervisor from 2004 remains their best seller, while Vicious Delicious pulled in Spanish guitar, Mexican vocalist Gil Cerezo from Kinky, and Canadian rap duo Swollen Members on the same record. Army of Mushrooms covered the Foo Fighters alongside drum and bass and dubstep influenced tracks. By 2007 they had climbed to number 9 in the DJmag Top 100 and were the highest placed psytrance act in the poll, a position they earned through years of relentless sonic boundary pushing.
