About
Iris Kroes is a Dutch singer songwriter and harpist from Drachten who won the second season of The Voice of Holland in 2012, becoming the second woman anywhere in the world to win a version of the show. What set her apart from the start was performing with a harp, something virtually unheard of in a TV singing competition, earning her the nickname Harpmeisje (Harp Girl). Her blind audition cover of Adele's Someone Like You had all four judges turning within the first fifteen seconds. Her debut album First came out in 2012, converting guitar and bass parts to harp across a mix of covers and originals, and reached number four on the Dutch album chart. Since then she has continued releasing original work, including the Frisian language singles Thús and Fjoer yn mij, and she performed at the national MH17 memorial service in 2014, a moment that brought her voice to audiences worldwide. She has also worked as a guest entertainer with Holland America Line and wrote the theme song for the Dutch film Stuk.
