About
Isis van der Wel is a composer who works at the intersection of music and live performance. Her work on the interactive show Immortal Dance, created together with choreographer Alida Dors, gives a good sense of her approach: the piece uses an audiovisual, theatrical setup to blur the line between audience and makers. Visitors pass through a specially designed musical and theatrical entrance before the performance proper begins, a ritual meant to shift their state of mind. From there the show guides them through a series of experiences tied to the essence of dance and the history of contemporary dance and club culture. The whole thing reads as a tribute to the connective power of dance.
