Odyn v kanoe, which translates from Ukrainian as 'Alone in a Canoe', got their name from a happy accident: vocalist Iryna Shvaidak stumbled across the Native American name Wikeninnish while reading online, loved how it sounded in Ukrainian, and the rest is history. The Lviv trio blends indie rock with folk, electronics, and ethno influences, giving their sound a distinctly textured feel that sets them apart from most of their contemporaries. Their logo, shaped like a six petalled flower borrowed from the resonator holes of a traditional Ukrainian bandura, is as carefully considered as the music itself. Founded in 2010, the band spent years building a loyal following through relentless touring across Ukraine before putting out their sprawling debut album in 2016, which featured 25 tracks recorded in Dnipro. Since 2014 they have refused to perform in Russia. Their second self titled album arrived in 2021, a tighter 12 song set that included the singles 'Icons' and 'I have no home', the latter also their first music video in nearly a decade.
