About
Ivan Smagghe built his reputation in the underground dance world long before anyone knew his real name. He was known early on as Ivan Rough Trade, a nod to his time working at the Rough Trade record store in Paris, and that crate digging background fed directly into his taste as a selector and producer. His Death Disco compilation became a touchstone release in the electroclash scene, and his Fabric 23 mix cemented his standing as one of the more adventurous voices in minimal electro and electro house. He co founded the project Black Strobe in 1997 alongside Arnaud Rebotini, a duo whose dark electronic sound they once described as frozen balearic gay biker house. He also collaborates with Marc Collin as part of the Volga Select project.
