About
James Grant is probably best known as the driving force behind Love and Money, the Scottish band that spent nine years together recording four albums and racking up six UK chart hits. Before that, he was cutting his teeth in the new wave act Friends Again, whose singles like "Honey at the Core" and "State of Art" earned them a modest following in the early 1980s. His solo work tells a different story though: records like "I Shot the Albatross" set poetry by Edwin Morgan, E. E. Cummings and William Blake to music, while "Holy Love" brought in dobro legend Jerry Douglas for something quieter and more introspective. More recently, Grant has teamed up with Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake and original Suede guitarist Bernard Butler as Butler, Blake and Grant, a songwriter's circle that started at Celtic Connections in 2022 and has since produced two albums on 355 Recordings.
