Jan De Wilde is a Belgian singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Aalst whose mix of folk, irony, and sharp wit made him one of Flemish kleinkunst's most distinctive voices. His early run in the 1970s gave him both fans and critics: playful folk songs like Joke and Een vrolijk lentelied charmed audiences while lines about subjects considered taboo at the time raised conservative eyebrows. He also played a significant role in launching Urbanus's career, co writing and producing three albums for the comedian before Urbanus eclipsed him in fame. After a long quiet spell, De Wilde came roaring back with Hè Hè in 1990, produced by Henny Vrienten, which introduced new classics like Eerste sneeuw and De fanfare van honger en dorst. A decade later, Oude Maan arrived with contributions from Luc De Vos of Gorki and production by Technotronic's Jo Bogaert, showing De Wilde still knew how to surround himself with the right people.
