About

Also known as: Jay Joseph Graydon

Jay Graydon is the guitarist behind one of rock's most celebrated solos: the guitar break on Steely Dan's 1977 track "Peg", which Walter Becker reportedly said he nailed with no difficulty after several other prominent session players had struggled with it. That kind of effortless precision defined Graydon's run as one of Los Angeles's most in demand session musicians from the late 1960s through the late 1970s, recording alongside artists ranging from Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles to Cheap Trick and Alice Cooper. Beyond session work, Graydon built a serious songwriting catalog, co writing two Grammy winning songs: "After the Love Has Gone" for Earth, Wind and Fire, and "Turn Your Love Around" for George Benson, both co written with Bill Champlin and David Foster on the former, Steve Lukather on the latter. His tightest creative partnership was with Al Jarreau, producing and co writing a string of early 1980s albums including Breakin' Away and High Crime. In 2001 he launched his own label, Sonic Thrust Records, covering everything from AOR to retro surf.
