About
Jensen McRae has a knack for writing songs that feel both deeply personal and quietly political, which is probably why outlets like NPR, Rolling Stone, and The Fader kept putting her name in front of people. The Santa Monica native broke through with her early singles "White Boy" and "Wolves," and then went fully viral in 2021 when a tweet she wrote predicting a Phoebe Bridgers vaccine song turned into an actual Phoebe Bridgers style parody called "Immune." Her debut EP Who Hurt You? and album Are You Happy Now? cemented her as a sharp voice in the bedroom pop and folk alternative space. She describes her sound as folk alternative pop, and critics have drawn comparisons to Tracy Chapman, though the music industry has sometimes tried to push her toward R&B simply because she is a Black artist, something she has spoken about directly. Her rich alto voice carries lyrics that mix personal storytelling with social commentary. More recently she signed with Dead Oceans and released her second album I Don't Know How but They Found Me! in 2025, with the TikTok viral track "Massachusetts" among its singles.
