Jerskin Fendrix makes the kind of art pop that sounds like it was assembled from the spare parts of things you half recognise, then reassembled into something genuinely strange. Working under that name but born Joscelin Dent Pooley, he first caught attention with his 2020 debut Winterreise, an experimental pop record that ended up landing on the desk of director Yorgos Lanthimos. That chance listen led to Fendrix composing the score for Poor Things, his very first film score, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score. He went on to score two more Lanthimos films, Kinds of Kindness and Bugonia, the latter picking up a second Oscar nomination. Described by The Quietus as somewhere between electro punk and ultra modern pop, Fendrix has a baritone voice that draws comparisons to Nick Cave and Lou Reed. He also turned up as a cameo in all three Lanthimos films, which is a strange and very on brand detail. In 2025 he released Once Upon a Time in Shropshire, his second solo album and a return to original music after his run of film work. A new music video for Beth's Farm dropped in mid 2025, suggesting the solo project is very much still in motion.
