About
Few Australian rock bands have cracked the global market quite like Jet. The Melbourne quartet built their reputation on a sound that channels the Rolling Stones, AC/DC and T. Rex into something urgent and immediate, and their 2003 debut Get Born proved the formula worked. It hit number one in Australia, went platinum in both the UK and the US, and the lead single "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" became genuinely inescapable, turning up in iPod ads, video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and the animated film Flushed Away. Get Born swept six ARIA Awards in 2004, including Album of the Year and Best Group, and "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" won the APRA award for Most Performed Australian Work Overseas three years running. The band followed up with two more Australian top five albums, Shine On and Shaka Rock, before splitting in 2012. They came back for reunion shows in 2016, reunited again in 2023, and were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame the same year.
