When jev. dropped "where's the confetti" in 2022, TikTok did its thing and turned this Congolese Canadian rapper into a name worth knowing. The viral moment was enough for him to quit his day job at Staples and go all in on music, leading to his debut album the color grey. His sound sits at the intersection of chipmunk soul and boom bap, blending old school textures with something more contemporary, and his lyrics are dense with wordplay and layered metaphors that reward a second listen. His influences read like a hip hop syllabus: Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Jay Z, Wu Tang Clan, J. Cole, the Fugees. That lineage shows up in his flexible flows and the way he treats the beat with as much care as the bars. In 2023 he released the EP Lonerwrld vol 1 and opened for Lil Tjay on the Beat The Odds Tour. He followed all of that up with his second album when angels cry in 2024.
