Rooted in the swamps and flatlands around Jacksonville, Florida, JJ Grey & Mofro make the kind of music that sounds like it could only come from one place. Their blend of blues, funk, soul, and southern rock carries the grit and warmth of the region in every track, with all songs written by frontman JJ Grey himself. The band built a devoted following the hard way, through relentless touring alongside acts like Widespread Panic and Galactic, and by tearing up summer festival stages at Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits. Over seven studio albums, the band has kept producer Dan Prothero in the chair and sharpened their sound without losing that swampy, lived in feel. Georgia Warhorse brought in Toots Hibbert and Derek Trucks as guests, while Country Ghetto earned a unlikely spot in House of Cards. Their 2015 release Ol' Glory, their debut on Provogue Records, weaved together blues, rock, folk, funk, and gospel in a way that felt entirely natural for a band this deeply connected to where they come from.
