Jodi G. and the Wayfaring Strangers are a five piece rooted in American traditional folk and country music, the kind that was never meant for concert halls or festival main stages but for living rooms, porches, and gatherings where people play and sing together just for the love of it. That communal spirit runs through everything they do. The lineup brings together voice, dulcimer, autoharp, spoons, melodica, ukulele, viola, violin, guitar, and lap steel guitar, which gives you a sense of how varied and textured their sound is. Jodi Gilbert leads on vocals and several of those folk instruments, joined by Laura Polence, Mary Oliver, Paul Pallesen, and Joost Buis. Their repertoire leans into the soulful side of the tradition, with close harmonies, affecting melodies, and rhythms that are hard to sit still through.
