Joe Satriani

About

Joe Satriani holds a pretty remarkable distinction: he is the bestselling instrumental rock guitarist of all time, with over ten million albums sold and fifteen Grammy nominations to his name. His 1987 record Surfing with the Alien was a genuine breakthrough, the first all instrumental album to chart that high in years, and it cemented his reputation as a guitarist who could make music without vocals feel urgent and alive. The Extremist from 1992 pushed him even further into the mainstream, going Gold in the US and landing Summer Song in a major Sony commercial campaign. Beyond his solo work, Satriani has played lead guitar for Mick Jagger on tour, briefly stepped in for Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple, and has been part of the supergroup Chickenfoot since 2008. He also founded the G3 guitar tour in 1996, which has brought together some of the most technically gifted players around. On top of all that, his teaching roster over the years reads like a who's who of rock guitar, including Kirk Hammett, Steve Vai, and Larry LaLonde.
