About
Joost Dijkema is a rarity in the Netherlands: a young guitarist who works in the fingerpicking tradition, playing acoustic instrumentals that pull you in and hold on. He has a distinctly personal take on it, and the guitar pieces sit alongside proper songs sung in a warm voice, where the lyrics lean on observation and on feelings drawn from both the present and the past. The overall mood is melancholy lonerfolk. The compositions are intense and carefully built, and the songs tend to work like a journey for the listener, moving through quiet, reflective territory rather than anything flashy.
