About
Joy Division Underground is a tribute band built around the songs of Joy Division, the post punk band that started out in Salford, Manchester. They play the material straight, with no costumes and no gimmicks, and put the focus on the music itself. The singer's voice is said to come uncannily close to Ian Curtis. The lineup is made up of seasoned musicians who are simply fans of the original band. That includes vocalist Erny Green, known from The Eternal and Kaspar Baum, and guitarist Henk Koorn, who plays in Hallo Venray. A typical set runs about ninety minutes and pulls together the best known songs from Joy Division's live repertoire. The crowd is a mix of people who have loved the band for decades and younger listeners just discovering that dark, emotional sound, and some of them travel across borders to see it.
