About
Also known as: Jan Pieter den Tex, Jan-Piet den Tex
JP Den Tex has been telling stories through song for decades, and he's built a loyal following doing it. His voice is a distinctive one, and the songs lean on narrative, with lyrics that are poetic and often carry a social conscience. He has a knack for taking something personal and making it feel like it belongs to everyone listening. Born in Arnhem, he started out as a solo artist in the Amsterdam rock scene of the seventies. From there he grew into a singer songwriter with a style that's entirely his own, though you can hear traces of Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman and Jacques Brel in the way he writes. He's filed under nederpop, but the storytelling tradition behind him runs wider than that.
