About
Also known as: Joshua Pless Harris
JP Harris plays country music the way it was meant to be played: raw, direct, and deeply felt. Based in Nashville, he fronts his band the Tough Choices and records music that draws on honky tonk, the Bakersfield sound, outlaw country, and old time traditions, citing heroes like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and the Carter Family as core touchstones. He is also a skilled clawhammer banjoist, a craft he still pursues alongside his work as a carpenter in the Nashville music community. His discography spans from the 2011 debut with the Tough Choices through the 2024 Bloodshot Records release JP Harris is a Trash Fire. Along the way there was the acclaimed 2018 album Sometimes Dogs Bark at Nothing on Free Dirt Records and a project under the name JP Harris' Dreadful Wind and Rain. He also records as a duo with Chance McCoy of Old Crow Medicine Show. His festival work includes Newport Folk Festival and a memorable one off event in 2014 that gave Bakersfield legend Red Simpson one of his last major public appearances.
