About
Kaaskop grew out of a reunion with a deeply personal motive: in 2022, Herman Finkers wanted to record an album for his terminally ill brother Jeroen van Merwijk, and that project brought together drummer Lucas van Merwijk, guitarist Ed Verhoeff and bassist Boudewijn Lucas. The trio has since made a habit of performing their own idiosyncratic readings of classic Dutch repertoire, drawing on a tradition sometimes called kleinkunst. Their live shows have expanded to include storytelling, anecdotes and historical tangents from Diederik van Vleuten, with projections and warm keyboard textures adding extra depth to the music.
