About

Also known as: 김종인

Kai runs Esprit D'Air basically on his own. He writes the songs, produces them, funds the whole thing and books the tours himself, no label or booking agent involved. The project started in London in 2010 and was rebooted as his solo vehicle in 2016. Since then it has put out Constellations, which won Best Metal Album at the Independent Music Awards, Oceans, which landed in the UK Official Rock & Metal Albums top 10, and Seasons, a mix of early material, covers and remixes. Singles like "Leviathan" and the 2023 re release of "Shizuku" cracked the top ten too. In October 2023 he also became a guitarist and backing vocalist for the Sisters of Mercy, flying out with only a few days' notice and learning over 20 songs fast. After a couple of shows, Andrew Eldritch asked if he wanted to make it permanent. Kai brought back the female sounding backing vocals on tracks like "This Corrosion" and "Temple of Love", and reviewers credited him with sharpening up the live shows.
