About
Kari Bremnes built her reputation on ballads and viser, the Nordic song tradition that sits somewhere between folk and poetry set to music. Born on the Lofoten islands in northern Norway, she first made her mark in 1987 with the solo album Mitt ville hjerte, a collection built on poems by Tove Ditlevsen and composed by Petter Henriksen, which earned her the Spellemannprijs. That record set the tone for a long career spent finding the space where literature and melody meet. She has been remarkably prolific over the decades, releasing albums solo and alongside collaborators including her brothers Ola and Lars, as well as Norwegian artists like Ole Paus and Mari Boine. She has also built a particularly devoted following in Germany through repeated touring. Her 2017 album Det Vi Har and a string of recent tracks show no sign of her slowing down.
