Kasia Kowalska is one of Poland's most enduring rock voices, with total album sales topping one million copies and a debut record, Gemini, that went Triple Platinum back in 1994. That first album is still considered one of the finest Polish rock releases of its era, and she followed it up by opening for Bob Dylan on his Polish tour that same year. Her range as an artist has always been hard to pin down: she has moved between rock, funk, jazz and electronic textures across her career, and her 1998 album Pelna obaw, which she produced herself, drew comparisons to Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill for its raw feminist energy. She represented Poland at Eurovision in 1996, won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Polish Artist in 2001, and recorded a tribute song for Ayrton Senna. One of her more personal projects was the album Ciechowski. My Blood, a live tribute to Grzegorz Ciechowski, the Republika frontman who produced her debut and served as her musical mentor. Recent activity shows her performing at large festival stages alongside sanah, keeping her live presence as central to her identity as her studio work.
